It’s time for authentic stories from Black women. Carefree is a Black women's magazine and an online community of authentic storytellers who believe Black women deserve to feel seen, heard, and celebrated—no matter where they came from. We tell indulgent, slow, and rich stories written by a different Black woman and sent to your inbox once a week.
I'm Anayo, and I created this space to tell more stories about Black womanhood. The Black womanhood I see when I'm at my girls' house and we trade travel stories over a glass of wine, the womanhood I see when we share stories of healing, the womanhood that exists outside of expectations. I created Carefree out of a lack of seeing myself represented in the world. Telling my story is what gave me the freedom to accept myself as I was. And Carefree is a safe space for Black women around the world to have the same opportunity.
My goal has always been to share the in-between stories. What exists between Black excellence and Black oppression? What exists between us breaking glass ceilings and us dealing with police brutality–reduced to a hashtag?
Nuance exists there. Beauty exists there. Triumph, failures, adventures, joy, LIFE exists there. There is so much to the collective Black experience and the stories we tell on Carefree are a testament to that.
Join me on this mission and join the Carefree crew!
